As many of you know, it was only a couple of years ago that I was struggling with my health- chronic joint pain, eczema, digestive issues and sudden weight loss. Being someone who was so willing to make changes to improve my situation, this was a frustrating and scary time as I was trying everything under the sun and searching for guidance for years. I tried physical therapy, cutting out TONS of foods, going to a naturopath, turmeric pills and the list goes on. Luckily, I not only found guidance, but I also found myself a job helping start up an integrative wellness practice called Total Life Concept and starting my career as a health coach.
It’s now two years since the worst of it and now I’m thriving, feeling even better than I did when I was 16 years old and all of these health problems began. It’s been a journey; confusing, frustrating, but ultimately empowering.
So what helped? Food, focus and fitness did. I’ve always been active, but there were important foundations missing. I always considered myself a healthy eater, but it turns out there is A LOT of conflicting information and there were some ingredients I was missing in my world keeping me from optimum nourishment. I have always been busy, getting off on the love of being booked to the brim. Turns out the missing piece was “focus” or a daily practice that helped me manage my stress. I’d gotten so used to stress I didn’t even realize it was there and the impact it was having on my body. As soon as I added meditation into my life, the fitness and food followed as did my return to health!
What surprised me most about finding my health again was it wasn’t about getting a diagnosis or cutting out certain foods from my diet. It was about ADDING the right stuff in, regaining hope in a journey I was feeling so disempowered in and employing some patience.
I share this story because in this world I KNOW I’m not the only one who struggles with confusing health problems. I know I’m not the only one who doesn’t know what to do to improve their situation but is desperate to do so. I share this story because I now work as part of the resource I wish I had when I was struggling the most AND I now know it doesn’t have to be so hard. I share this because I bet you’ve been told that your health problems are what they are there is nothing you can do about it. But I want to challenge that notion.
Total Life Concept empowers people to put health in their own hands through introducing new perspectives around food, focus and fitness. By engaging functional tools and experiential-based learning, participants create lasting habit changes that transform their health.
Our team is made up of an MD, a fitness trainer, meditation teachers and a health coach. We collaborate with each other and you to improve your health and help you enjoy life with a healthy body and mind. A huge part of what we do is education. We love the phrase, “Give a man a fish and he has food for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” This is our foundation within TLC. We want people to not just know what to do, but why and how to listen to their body as its needs change. Ultimately, we want people to feel empowered and hopeful that true wellness can be theirs-no matter how much they feel they’ve failed in the past.
